On April 19th, Cuba experienced an historic change with the replacement of Raúl Castro from the presidency of the Caribbean country through the election of Miguel Díaz-Canel, a politician with wide experience within the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) who held the position of First Vice President. The relevance of this event also lies in the fact that for the first time (after the Cuban Revolution) the leadership will be shared with the Secretary of the PCC, a position Castro will hold until 2021. During his mandate, Díaz-Canel will have to face important challenges that will be essential to legitimize his power; such as the stagnation in the economic growth of the island, the much-needed monetary unification, the lack of internet accessibility, the almost null diplomatic relationship with the United States, among others.
